Charles E. "Charlie" Helwig is the Principal of Helwig Real Estate Services (HRES), an independent consulting practice active in the Northeast and Mid Atlantic markets specializing in providing development, urban revitalization and land advisory consulting services for public, private and non profit clients. Charlie spent 10 years with The Rouse Company in senior sales, leasing and development consulting positions including managing Columbia land sales and office leasing. He was responsible for attracting national home builders to buy land and build innovative single family detached, apartments and townhouses in the 14,000 acre Columbia MD master planned community. Charlie then moved to the American City Corporation (ACC), Rouse's downtown development consulting subsidiary as Senior Development Director. Charlie provided cities and towns nationally with technical development management assistance for downtown revitalization projects including Buffalo, New York and Lowell, MA.

After ACC, Charlie formed Atlantic Resources Corporation (ARC), a Columbia, MD based independent real estate consulting company specializing in acquisition, disposition and development consulting. Charlie also served as Vice President East Coast Acquisition Director for Los Angeles based Trust Company of the West (TCW) Realty Advisors and Westmark Real Estate Investment Services in their Rowes Wharf Boston office.

Charlie has been involved in most every aspect of the development process including site acquisition/disposition, due diligence, market research, land planning, design, zoning, entitlements/appeals, leasing, financing, developer selection/negotiations and closing complex transactions. Clients have included landowners, developers, lenders, parking owners, community development corporations and institutional non profits. Asset classes include land, multifamily, office, retail, hotel, senior housing and parking. He has worked on assignments in the greater Boston area, Philadelphia/South Jersey, Wilmington, DE, Baltimore, Columbia, Washington DC and Florida. 

Charlie is a graduate of Babson College with a B.S in Business Administration. He is a licensed Real Estate Broker in Massachusetts and Associate Real Estate Broker "Commercial Designation" in Maryland. He has served on various Town of Dover (MA) committees including the Caryl School Reuse Committee, Long Range Planning Committee and the Dover Community Center Building Committee. Charlie is a 5th year Pan-Mass Challenge (PMC) volunteer at the Babson Station working with 4,000 other volunteers and 6,000 riders helping to raise $63 million in 2019 for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
